Event Security Planning

Planning, planning and more planning is absolutely necessary for the proper security of any event! You need to try and plan for what you do know, plan for what you think you know and attempt to plan for the unknown.

Essentials to Security Strategy Planning

• Know the venue inside and out- understand how ‘porous’ the venue is, referring to ways that people could gain access without using a typical entry point.

• Gauge attendee risk- are any of the guest speakers/performers a higher risk with a controversial history. Also, look into suspicious activity such as bulk ticket buying.

• Control the crowd- keep guests away from crowding exit points, keep guests from restricted areas and ensure entry is kept organised.

• Assess potential for large-scale attacks- bags should be checked upon entry and any weak points where someone could affect large amounts of people easily, should be monitored and controlled.

• Keep communication tight- constant comms are necessary and if a professional security detail is present, ensure they have communications with the rest of the staff.
